Day 2 Overview

Day 2, titled "The Kingdom", is where the story truly begins to branch. You'll discover the mysterious "Hierarchy" system, encounter new characters, and face crucial decisions that determine which story route you follow.

The choices you made in Day 1 will directly impact:

The Hierarchy System

The Kingdom introduces the concept of a social hierarchy within the school. This system divides students into different classes and plays a crucial role in the story's world-building.

High Class vs. Lower Class

The world of The Kid At The Back features a clear social stratification:

  • High Class: Students with special privileges and status
  • Lower Class: Students who must work in the Garden and perform other duties

This hierarchy is explained by either Hyugo or Crowe depending on your Day 1 choices.

The Orange Juice Route

Requirements:

  • Accumulate 8 or more affection points with Sol throughout Day 1 and Day 2
  • Skip class with Hyugo and Sol
  • Go to the Arcade
  • Choose "Let Sol walk you home"

Path to Orange Juice

  1. Morning Scene: Make choices that build Sol's affection (Join Sol or Call Sol Over)

  2. Hierarchy Explanation: Hyugo will explain the system if you spent time with Sol.

  3. Critical Choice: Skip class with Hyugo and Sol (instead of going to class)

  4. Afternoon Activity:

    • You will be presented with two options:
      • Watch the movie
      • Go to the Arcade
    • You must choose Go to the Arcade
  5. Building Affection: Continue making choices that increase Sol's affection points.

  6. Key Decision: When Hyugo offers to walk you home, you will have different options based on your affection:

Day 2 Story Continuation

Morning: Crowe doesn't show up. The Player searches for him but is unsuccessful.

The Search for Crowe

The Player:

  • Asks other students if they've seen Crowe
  • Messages Crowe but receives no reply
  • Talks to Brittney (one of Crowe's closest friends)
  • Brittney has no clue where he went
  • Brittney suggests checking the Council's office

Investigating the Council

The Player visits the Council's office, but they don't know where Crowe is either. Classes start, but the Player refuses to attend and continues searching.

The Journey to the Garden

The Player wanders around searching until they reach the Garden where they usually work. Frustrated and anxious, they try calling Crowe, but the phone is silent. They continue deeper into the garden until...

The Forest

They encounter a familiar fence marking the school campus border, beyond which lies the forest.

Climbing the Fence

  • The Player decides to climb the fence to search for Crowe
  • While climbing down, they slip and fall, injuring themselves
  • Their phone is cracked from the fall
  • Upset, they put the phone away and continue searching

The Dark Forest

In the forest:

  • The atmosphere becomes suffocating
  • The Player's heartbeat accelerates
  • The thicket gets thicker and thicker
  • Overgrown bushes and crawling vines cover the dirt floor

Discovery

The Player is about to give up until they spot something: a torn piece of Crowe's indigo vest.

The Broken Shed

Clutching the torn fabric, they discover a broken-down shed. Ignoring all warnings, they drag an axe from a nearby tree stump to pry open the shed door.

The Smell of Blood

As they break through, a strong smell hits them - the smell of iron, the smell of blood.

The Revelation

Inside the shed, the Player discovers the worst truth:

A deceased Crowe

  • His throat is slit
  • His hair is chopped off
  • His eyes are soulless and left open
  • He is covered in a pool of blood

The Player drops to their knees in horror and disbelief.

The True Culprit

Suddenly, they hear footsteps behind them. They turn to find Sol.

Sol's reaction:

  • Fiery red eyes widen in shock
  • Mix of surprise, dread, and panic
  • Pleads with the Player to leave

The Player notices:

  • The bloody handaxe Sol dropped
  • His bloody hands
  • His dark shirt, stained with blood

Sol killed Crowe.

Sol's Confession

Instead of fleeing, Sol begins to proclaim his love for the Player. Enraged by Sol's words and actions, the Player lunges at Sol, pulling on his choker to try to kill him.

The Final Betrayal

Before the Player can kill Sol, they are stabbed from behind by a sharp blade.

  • Sol cries over the Player as they lose consciousness
  • An unknown figure enters their fading vision - it's Hyugo
  • Sol and Hyugo argue, with Sol's muffled screams reprimanding Hyugo

The End

The Player takes their last breath as the game ends with the ominous words:

"No Witnesses"
